FCF News for 01/23/08:

Frontier Adventure/Trace Report for 2008

Pre Frontier Adventure/Trace: January 10 & 11, 2008.

Thanks to all who participated and helped out as we had a great time at the 2008 Frontier Adventure/Trace and held Wilderness and Buckskin testing. Before the Frontier Adventure and Trace, we had several people work together to set up a permanent Hawk and Knife target area. It looks and works real good! They also set up the area and marquee for the upcoming events. Helping set up were Red Fox (Rev. David Craun), Snake Hunter (Rev. Nelson Jones), Lighthouse (Manson Reynolds), Spider (Rev. Randy Henry), Sod Buster (Roger Lachney), Sunshine (Lansing Zaragoza), Lone Wolf (Richmond Zaragoza), Lit Bit (Kolt Kays), T-Kuto (Lee Robinson), Red Dog (Lee Hernandez), Eagle Scout (Rodney Eaton), Candidate Jacob Choate, Dossie Jones (wife of Snake Hunter), and Jessica Zaragoza (wife of Sunshine). We had rain until noon, then some welcome sunshine as well as cold weather overnight.

Thirty Candidates total came to go through the Frontier Adventure. That was the most Candidates we have had in many years! Praise God! All Candidates passed and are now full Frontiersmen Members in Frontiersman Camping Fellowship. Spider (Rev. Randy Henry) was our Speaker and did a Great job in inspiring us to keep God First. The weather was sunny and very cold!

We give many thanks to Lighthouse (Manson Reynolds) for his untiring serving in bandaging up all of our cuts and scrapes. Especially for his prompt assessment of the major cut that Snake Hunter (Rev. Nelson Jones) sustained on his finger and getting him to the hospital. Several stitches later, Snake Hunter (Rev. Nelson Jones) was back with us although a little slower and quieter than usual. Our Vice President Spider (Rev. Randy Henry) stepped in along with the rest of the Jim Bowie Chapter staff and did a good job in keeping things running while Snake Hunter (Rev. Nelson Jones) was out. Hunts with Stick (Preston Anders) was in charge of all of the good eats and did a great job supervising the kitchen and his staff.

Winter Trace: January 12 & 13, 2008 (Held after Frontier Adventure was completed) The Jim Bowie FCF Chapter Winter Trace was held after the completion of the Frontier Adventure at the Twin Lakes Camp Grounds on January 12 & 13, 2008.  The Trace was dedicated to Rev. D.E. “Grey Squirrel” Stroud who went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2006. Rev. D.E. “Grey Squirrel” Stroud had been a great inspiration to many FCF member and well as Royal Ranger Leaders throughout his time in Royal Rangers and FCF. Rev. D.E. “Grey Squirrel” Stroud was the first Louisiana District Royal Rangers Commander, inspired, and taught many of our leadership what it means to be a successful Royal Ranger Leader and FCF member. He did so much for Royal Rangers and FCF that it is hard to list them all. He inspired many to rise and serve the Lord with their whole heart.

We had as our speaker our Jim Bowie Chapter Vice President Spider (Rev. Randy Henry) on Saturday night with a thought provoking message from God which called down rain from heaven and a Great Prayer Time afterward! It did rain during his message and then quit soon afterwards. We then had another clear and cold night.

Business Meeting: At the Jim Bowie FCF Chapter Annual Business meeting Sunday morning, we had lots of old and new business to go over. We had an opening devotion by Spider (Rev. Randy Henry). Then it was down to business. There were three main Chapter positions (President, District Scout, and District Assistant Scout) that needed to be filled. After elections and appointments, the following are the Jim Bowie FCF Chapter officers for 2008:

Chairman – Rev. David “Red Fox” Craun

President – Rev. Nelson “Snake Hunter” Jones – Elected at meeting

Vice President – Rev. Randy “Spider” Henry

Scribe – Rodney “Eagle Scout” Eaton

Wilderness Rep – Manson “Lighthouse” Reynolds

Buckskin Rep – Lee “T-Kuto” Robinson

Historian – Ed “Spiritual Bear” Tatum

Company Clerk – Lansing “Sunshine” Zaragoza

Scout – Joseph “Candle” Reynolds – Elected at meeting

Asst. Scout – Kolt “Little Bit” Kays – Elected at meeting

Frontier Adventure Coordinator – to be filled

Rev. Nelson “Snake Hunter” Jones was elected to another two year term as President. This term will be his 25th and 26th year as Jim Bowie Chapter President! A new Scout, Joseph “Candle” Reynolds, was elected. Kolt “Little Bit” Kays was elected as the new Asst. Scout. Please remember that all Old Timer Chapter Officers must complete the Chapter Officers Notebook. Please contact Ted “Eagle Eye” Romero, the Territorial Rep, for the paperwork and requirements. We are expecting a great year out of the new/old officers as well as lots of work and dedication!!

We found that many of the Trapper’s Brigade points were not being processed for FCF, but the new processes put into place last year helped gain many “lost” points for us. These points are very important to the health of FCF and Royal Rangers at the District, Regional, and National levels. Please turn in your points as you earn them. We have set up the Trapper’s Brigade Points form on the web site to help with the turnaround of the points. There is now a Trapper’s Brigade Points Review Committee to review the points and award those points that meet the requirements. The Trapper’s Brigade Points Review Committee members are Rodney “Eagle Scout” Eaton, Rev. Nelson “Snake Hunter” Jones, Will Harper, and Stephens Ernst. Points will only be awarded after review and approval of the committee. In order to earn points, you must have paid your 2008 dues and attend at least two of the District/National events in 2008 to be active. The events are the Frontier Adventure, Jim Bowie Chapter Trace, Royal Rangers Academy, FCF National Rendezvous, and the District Pow Wow.

A Young Bucks meeting was held by the new District Scout Candle (Joseph Reynolds) after the business meeting. There was some good insight and suggestions given by the Young Bucks. A report will follow soon on the outcome of that meeting.

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: It was brought up and voted in that we would separate out the Frontier Adventure and Trace on different weekends. The reasoning was that the weekend became too hectic and many boys and men were not able to get to the Frontier Adventure until after 7:00PM because of work and school. Splitting out the events means that we will only focus on the one event for the weekend and enable us to do all that is needed to make the event successful and memorable.

The Frontier Adventure for 2008 will be held on the Labor Day Weekend in August on the dates of August 29 & 30 2008. It has yet to be determined if we will go over into Sunday August 31. The new format and fees will be decided upon after we take the Frontier Adventure Certification seminar at the Royal Ranger Regional Conference in Memphis, Tn. on February 1 & 2, 2008. All FCF members are encouraged to attend the Conference and the Frontier Adventure Certification seminar. Information can be found on the Gulf Region Web Site: http://www.gulfregionrr.org/ . National Commander and Nation FCF Chairman Doug Marsh will be the featured speaker.

The Jim Bowie Chapter Trace will be held in January 2009 with the date to be decided upon. Elections will be held for Vice-President.
