The Louisiana Royal Rangers Have Done It Again With the Jim Bowie District FCF Officers at the helm, and with the help of commanders all across the district, Louisiana Royal Rangers put on an adventure camp known as the "Frontier Brigade". The camp was designed with an emphasis on getting boys ready to enter the world of FCF. These young men had the opportunity to learn and put into practice several "Frontier Skills". They lived in a frontier camp, sleeping in frontier tents and performing most of their activities as a brigade. They actually went through the process of tanning a rabbit hide. They were taught Rifle Safety by a certified NRA Instructor. They were given the opportunity to advance their swimming skills under the guidance of certified Water Safety Instructors. They were able to earn the Indian Lore merit by making part of an Indian outfit. The Leathercraft and beadwork merits were added to the curriculum to enhance their frontier experience. The boys sewed beadwork to their moccasins and then assembled the moccasins which were worn throughout the camp. The young men in the Brigade were blessed with two additional classes. A class was held on Frontier Manners and how men were expected to behave in society. Probably one of the most important classes held, was "How to read and understand the Bible". Young men, at twelve years of age, want to know about God's Word, but have trouble understanding what is written in the Bible. Their academic level just hasn't developed to that point yet. Remember, this is mostly 7th grade boys and reading is usually not high on their list of priorities. All these merits are something most outposts cannot teach locally and all are Frontier related.
Head Quarters for the Brigade Camp. As you can see, it takes teamwork to keep a Brigade running smoothly. Two Edge (in the background) has the responsibility of covering the "papertrail". Buckshot (in the foreground) is actually doing several things here. He's keeping an eye on the boys, checking the heat index, trying to wake up and pointing at his moccasins. Nobody has ever figured out why.
Scary!! But This Is THE Man The Jim Bowie FCF President The Most Honorable "Snake Hunter" Also Known as Rev. Nelson Jones This is the man who has given us the inspiration to pursue FCF in such a diligent manner. His faithfulness to the chapter and dedicated leadership abilities played a key role in the development of the Frontier Brigade. His years of experience in the ministry and in FCF have proven to be an invaluable asset in this labor of love.
A hearty Thank You to all the men who served on the first Frontier Brigade staff. Nelson "Snake Hunter" Jones The early American frontiersman was an excellent example of man's ability to adapt to the outdoors and the wilderness. His achievements were also an example of courage and determination. FCF endeavors to develop in each member the same courageous and undaunted spirit of the early frontiersmen. High morale and contagious enthusiasm are developed by urging each member to strive to achieve five important things: develop courage, display achievement, develop friendship, demonstrate leadership, and develop woodsmanship A message from the Brigade commanders
