Pioneer Leadership Training Camp

Pioneer Boys

Age 11

Due to the extremely full schedule Louisiana has on it's calendar, the Pioneer Leadership Training Camp has been incorporated into the Academy curriculum. The 11 year old Adventure Ranger boys will have this camp as part of their Academy training.

Purpose:

To provide boys with training in the areas of leadership with an emphasis on Gold Bar Leadership Training. This camp is for Adventure Rangers age 11 and their leaders. This camp gives the commanders from the Adventure outpost the opportunity to learn the new Gold Bar Training and Patrol System. Leaders and boys will camp, cook, and attend classes together. Classes will use interaction methods to enhance learning. All who attend should have already completed at least the first section in the "Gold Bar Training" workbook.

Introduction:

Pioneer Leadership Training Camp will introduce the patrol system, to be used back in the trainees' local outpost. It will also give an introduction to the concept of Gold Bar Training.

Training Junior Leaders is an on-going process that begins immediately upon a ranger's appointment or election as a Junior Leader, Assistant Guide, Patrol Guide, or Senior Guide. It begins with a process called "Introduction to Leadership". The Outpost Commander conducts outpost Junior Leader Training shortly after each outpost election or appointment to office. Other special junior leader activities are encouraged as the Outpost Commander sees fit.

In addition to the personal training conducted by the Outpost Commander, the Gold Bar Training gives your senior guide and other ranger junior leaders hands-on experience. Its purpose is to supplement the Outpost Commander's training.

Another important part to this camp will be the session on Rope craft, Tool craft, Lashing, and Fire craft. The focus will be on the classes of Junior Leader Gold Bar Training, Advancement Trail, Patrol System, Gold Bar in the Outpost, Junior Leader in the Outpost, and the Importance of Recreation. The skills learned in these classes will remain with them throughout their involvement in Royal Rangers.

PLTC is different than JLTC, or other Junior Training Camps. This camp not only allows the advisor to stay in the camp sites with the boys, it encourages the local commander to be an observer at the camp to see the progress their rangers are making. The commanders are to observe only and should not be included as the staff. They attend the council fire and sit in the Gold Bar training so they will have a better understanding of the Patrol System and Gold Bar Training. They should not become involved in the discussion during the class session, however there should be time set aside to answer any of their questions after class. The camp should inspire and challenge the boys to go back to their outpost and get the other boys excited.
